A CV with or without a photo – in 13 languages
Whether a CV should have a photo depends on where you apply, and the language of your CV should follow the job, not the country you studied in. RezuYes handles both: add a photo or leave it out, and pick one of 13 languages. The CV is written in that language from the start – it is not a word-for-word translation of your old one.
The photo is optional – and stays with you
Every one of our 56 designs works without a photo. If you leave it out, the CV simply has none – there is no grey placeholder and no empty frame. If you add one, the design places it where it belongs in that layout: a round portrait in a sidebar, a small square next to your name or a larger image in the header.
Your photo is never sent to the AI. It is stored as a small image with your CV and only used to render the design. The AI writes your content from your text alone, so your appearance can’t influence a single word.
Photo or no photo? Follow local norms
Conventions differ by market, so decide per application:
- UK, Ireland, USA and Canada: leave the photo out. Employers there generally don’t expect one and many prefer not to receive one.
- Germany, Austria and Switzerland: a professional photo is still common, though not required.
- Poland and much of Central and Eastern Europe: a photo is common and often expected, but a CV without one is acceptable.
- Large international companies: when in doubt, leave it out – the CV is judged on content.
13 languages, written natively
Choose from English, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Czech, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. Everything is written in that language: the CV, the LinkedIn profile, the interview questions and the tips – even when your old CV and the job offer are in a different language.
The CV follows the conventions of its language. English bullets use implied first person and past tense for past roles; Polish bullets use first-person verbs in the right grammatical gender; numbers, currencies and dates follow local formats. Degree names are translated where a standard equivalent exists, while company, school, product and technology names stay in their original form.
Headings and the GDPR clause follow the language
Section headings are printed in the CV’s language – Experience, Doświadczenie, Erfahrung, Expérience, Werkervaring and so on – and the GDPR consent clause at the bottom of the page is in the same language, referring to Regulation (EU) 2016/679. A Polish CV gets the full RODO wording Polish employers recognise.
If you add a photo, make it work for you
A good CV photo is a recent, well-lit head-and-shoulders shot against a plain background, looking at the camera, dressed as you would for the interview. Holiday crops, sunglasses and group photos do more harm than no photo at all. If you don’t have a photo you are happy with, leave it out – a strong CV without a photo is always better than a weak photo on a strong CV.
You can switch designs in the preview to see how your photo sits in different layouts before you decide, and you can generate one version with a photo for a German employer and one without for a UK one.
Applying abroad? Generate one version per language
If the offer is in German and your CV is in English, the app will tip you to generate a German version. Your original job title can stay in brackets where it helps the reader, for example “Foreman (Vorarbeiter)”. The “5 attempts” package covers several language versions or several offers.

Should I put a photo on a UK or US CV?
Generally no. In the UK, Ireland and North America CVs and resumes are normally sent without a photo. In Germany and Poland a photo is more common.
Which languages are available?
